A deadly house fire swept through a home in North Aurora, destroying the house and killing one man.
Five other family members made it out safely.
The fire started just after 4 a.m. on the 14000 block of E. 26th Ave., near Billings. Sister station KCNC says heavy smoke was visible from the second floor as firefighters arrived on scene. It took 15 minutes to get the fire under control.
Firefighters found the victim on the second floor of the home.
Firefighters are still unsure how the fire started, and are considering it a crime scene until it's confirmed that the fire was accidental.
“Because it’s a fatal fire, we will initiate a crime scene and work with police officers until we determine the cause of the fire. If the cause is determined to be accidental then the fire investigators from the fire department will continue with the investigation,” Aurora Fire Department spokesman Capt. Allen Robnett told KCNC.
