Damaging winds caused a number of problems for residents of Southern Colorado. Downed trees, broken windows and grass fires have been linked to Wednesday's gusting winds.
Crews with Colorado Springs Utilities were kept busy with a number of reported power outages.
Hundreds of customers went dark Wednesday evening near Uintah Street and El Paso Street north of downtown Colorado Springs. Crews report the outage was caused by a tree damaged by wind. All customers have had their power restored.
Chief Meteorologist Brian Bledsoe says the winds reached hurricane strength. The threat for strong wind continued overnight, with the highest wind gusts occurring from near Pueblo West to western Colorado Springs, northward to Denver and westward. Gusts over 70 mph were possible overnight for those closest to the mountains.
Along and immediately east of I-25, west to northwest winds will ran between 25 and 50 mph through early Thursday morning, with an occasional gust to 60 mph possible.
