Hooked - (Stacia Naquin)
Updated: 10/11/2013 - I'm SO CLOSE to being able to do a pull-up. So my trainer introduced something new into my training.
A teenage boy has died from injuries sustained in a three-car crash near Walmart in Fountain on Highway 85/87.
A 5-week-old baby is still battling life-threatening injuries.
State Patrol says the driver who caused the crash may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time.
The crash happened around 1:50 p.m. Monday at Plaza Drive and Highway 85/87. According to troopers, a Chevy Impala was behind a Toyota Tundra at a red light when a Dodge Ram truck slammed right into the back of the car. The car was pushed forward into the Toyota.
Witnesses described those horrifying moments to 11 News.
"I looked in my mirror and saw the gold truck coming at 50, 60 miles an hour, and he was just not stopping," one man told 11 News.
"Out of nowhere, I hear two seconds of tires screeching, 'boom' and debris everywhere. I have never been so scared in my life," another witness recalled.
Four children were in the back seat of the Impala, ranging in age from 15 to just a few weeks old. When Danielle Allen ran to the scene shortly after the crash, she said a boy was in terrible condition.
"I went to help and he was just bleeding...he wasn't talking or breathing."
The boy was pinned to the back seat.
"Looking at the 13-year-old, all I could think about was my little girl...my heart just goes out to them, I can't imagine what they're going through," an emotional Allen told 11 News.
The boy was airlifted to Memorial Hospital, while seven others, including 45-year-old Andrew Marsh, the driver of the Dodge Ram, were taken to the hospital by ambulance. Injuries to all but the teen victim and the infant were minor.
Marsh could face careless driving charges. Alcohol and drugs are being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.
Highway 85/87 was closed for nearly three hours in the area while troopers were investigating.
