A chain reaction involving a dog and some prison inmates led to a massive backups on the interstate Monday morning.

State troopers tell 11 News that a dog somehow got onto the northbound I-25 on-ramp at West Cimarron. A truck hit the dog, causing a semi to rear-end it.

A Department of Corrections bus, transporting 13 inmates from Canon City, then crashed into the back of the semi. Injuries to all involved were minor, although the dog's condition is unknown.

Five inmates were going to be released Monday.

The crash shut down two northbound lanes on I-25 for two hours before reopening shortly before noon.

The inmates transferred to a second DOC bus at the accident site.
