More green energy is on its way to Colorado Springs.
In less than a week, contractors will be placing their bids for a project that will double the size of the city’s solar gardens.
The current community gardens supply two mega watts of solar energy.
Hundreds of Colorado Springs Utilities customers already buy the energy collected from the solar panels.
The utilities provider says these people are able to offset their electric bill by 10 percent.
“Buying a small share in a community consolidated solar array opens up solar power to a lot of our customers,” said Dave Grossman with Colorado Springs Utilities.
Ten contractors are bidding for the expansion project. A decision will likely be made in mid-October.
Grossman tells 11 News they are not able to estimate the cost of the project until the bids are accepted October 1.
