A Colorado Springs grandma was thrown into jail for five days over a big mistake.

State documents from Florida show Katie Wilson was arrested for credit card fraud in Orange County in 1976. She says she didn’t know the woman she was traveling with used stolen credit cards. She didn’t fight her charge and says she completed her probation and moved on with her life.

Somehow, though, a few weeks ago, a warrant from Orange County was activated. It said she violated probation. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office contacted Springs police and Wilson was arrested.

“I was terrified. I was shaking uncontrollably,” she says about her experience in jail. “I wasn’t even aware that I was crying. Tears were just pouring down my face.”

Her husband was left to try to get her out.

“All I could do was dedicate myself to saving her,” says Jim Wilson. “I didn’t eat, I didn’t sleep and we got her back.”

Springs police tells 11 News they were just doing their job, they were obligated to arrest her. They say if they have an arrest warrant for a fugitive from out of state signed by a judge, they have to make the arrest.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is looking into why the warrant was issued in the first place.
