Colorado Man Pleads Guilty To Prostitution Charges

A Colorado man has pleaded guilty to conspiring to take women across state lines in order to prostitute them out.

Federal authorities said 36-year-old James Roy Smith, also known as "Mister Smith," of Lakewood planned to run a prostitution business in multiple states, including New Jersey, New Mexico, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania in 2010.

The plan was to take the women from state-to-state by plane or SUV and then advertise on sites like Craigslist and to find customers, according to investigators.

Smith is charged with conspiracy to transport women across state lines to work as prostitutes, and transportation of a victim across state lines with the intent that the victim work as a prostitute.

Smith faces 15 years in prison and $500,000 in fines. He is scheduled to be sentenced in April.

Federal authorities have not released Smith's mugshot.
