Flags will be at half-staff statewide Thursday as a Colorado Marine is laid to rest.
Cpl. David M. Sonka, of Parker, Colo. was among the casualties on May 4, one of the most violent days in Afghanistan in months. Eight troops were killed that day in separate attacks; seven were identified as U.S. troops.
Sonka, 23, and another Marine were killed while conducting combat operations in the Farah province in Afghanistan. The Department of Defense is still investigating the incident.
Sonka's funeral is being held in Littleton, then he will be buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
