Cold Overnight Weather Puts A Dent In Crime

Posted: Mon 8:10 AM, Nov 12, 2012

Springs police say the cold temperatures had an affect on the amount of crime in the city overnight.

They say the dent in the number of crimes allowed officers to be more flexible and cut down response times.

Overnight officers tell 11 News the busiest time for them early Monday morning was from 12 a.m. to 2 a.m. During that time, police weren't working more than three calls at one time citywide.

It was a stark contrast to Halloween night, when police were kept incredibly busy. Officers say mild temperatures along with the holiday led to hundreds of calls overnight. At one point, officers were scrambling to answer over 70 calls across the city at one time.

Police say over the years they have seen cold weather knock down the number of crimes in Colorado Springs, but they want residents to be aware of a rise in crime around the holidays.
