A bag of canned goods caused some excitement Saturday morning after it was reported to authorities as a suspicious package.

The bag was spotted at a gas station and liquor store near Peterson Air Force Base. Officials with the Cimarron Hills Fire Department and El Paso County Sheriff's Office turned up to investigate.

Authorities quickly determined that the "suspicious package" was nothing more than a bag of food cans.

Though these reports more times than not wind up being harmless, authorities say the reporting party did the right thing by contacting authorities. Officials say to always report anything unusual, and let professionals determine whether or not there's a true threat.
