A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Areas under these bands will see periods of heavy snowfall which, with windy conditions, could create travel difficulties. A 77-year-old woman in a motorized wheelchair was hit while trying to cross Austin Bluffs near Academy in Colorado springs.
It happened when the driver of a blue Dodge Durango turned west on to Austin Bluffs from a side street. The impact knocked the wheelchair over and pushed it along with the pedestrian approximately fifteen feet.
The wheelchair was stuck under the front bumper of the Durango. The pedestrian was transported to Penrose Main where she was being treated for a possible skull fracture.
The driver of the Durango was cited and released for Careless Driving Resulting in Injury.
