A suspicious-looking device at a Colorado Springs park turned out to be an item used in military training.
The 12-inch plastic tube was found lying along the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail in Dorchester Park Monday afternoon. The park is just off the interstate in south Colorado Springs. The bomb squad was called to investigate.
Authorities eventually gave the "all clear" after determining that the device was harmless. Police said it was a realistic-looking replica of a tank mine, used all the time in military training--including at Fort Carson, which is just five miles from Dorchester Park.
The item posed no threat to the community.
