Police have confirmed that the deceased man pulled from a creek Monday morning was a likely victim of the recent days' flooding.
Colorado Springs police have identified the victim as 47-year-old James Bettner, and say the cause of death was drowning. The county coroner has ruled the death accidental.
Residents living near the west fork of Sand Creek off Town Center Drive tell 11 News the water levels earlier this week were extremely dangerous.
"The water was just rushing," one woman recalled. "It was really high and really coming fast.
The body was found at 11:40 a.m. Monday in the portion of Sand Creek that runs along the 4600 block of Town Center Drive. This is near Platte and Wooten in Colorado Springs. People familiar with the area told 11 News it's common for people to use the creek there as a shortcut.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department assisted with the recovery.
