Investigators say a juvenile is the suspect in a deadly shooting case. The soldier and father was killed in his home in Widefield near Mesa Ridge and Fountain Mesa.
The El Paso County Coroner identified the victim as 36-year-old James Fleming.
The shooting happened just after 11 p.m. on Sunday, March 3. Sheriff's deputies say when they got to the home, they found a man dead inside.
Investigators released Tuesday that a young member of the victim’s own family is the suspect in the deadly shooting. The juvenile has not been identified.
We are working to learn more about the events leading up to the deadly shooting. Right now investigators are not releasing those details; it remains under investigation.
A family friend told 11 News it was a terrible accident. We asked the Sheriff's office, but they say they can't confirm that right now.
Neighbors tell 11 News they never expected anything like this to happen at the home and have no idea why the shooting happened.
A family friend tells us that Fleming was a Fort Carson Soldier who just returned from a tour in Iraq. She says he was married with three kids.
Neighbors say the family moved into the house last August. Those we talked to called the family nice, and say they never seemed to be any problems there.
Right now no arrest has been made. It is not clear if there will be any charges filed against the young suspect. But we will let you know as soon as we find out.
The investigation continues.
