A shocking discovery was made outside of a local church Sunday morning. Colorado Springs Police are investigating a body found in a parking lot.
Just after 5a.m. Sunday morning, a man's body was found near Austin Bluffs and Academy in the parking lot of Vanguard Church.
The victim has been identified as Carlos Zuassnabar,25. The El Paso County coroner says he was stabbed to death. This is the 27th homicide so far this yea in Colorado Springs.
Police say Zuassnabar was found next to a white van. As the sun rose, people started to show up for their regular Sunday services, but they didn't expect to see police officers covering the parking lot.
"It breaks my heart to even think that things like that happen,” explained Liz Grayson.
As detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit worked to collect evidence outside the church, inside, Pastor Kelly Williams said a special prayer for the victim and his family.
"Unfortunately it's a reminder that there is evil in the world and things like that happen, but we want to continue to do good and make a difference in our world,” Pastor Williams said.
