ASPEN, Colo. (AP) -- Wildlife officials are investigating after someone shot and killed a black bear and dumped the carcass near a trash bin in Snowmass Village.

Kevin Wright, district wildlife manager with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, tells the Aspen Daily News the adult sow was shot twice "at fairly close range," probably last Sunday night. The carcass was tied up in a tarp.

The bear was hit in the lower abdomen and hind quarters, and again in the face and shoulder. Lewis declined to say what caliber of gun was used.
