A family had to hide inside their own home, after they found a bear in their kitchen.
The homeowner, who lives near Star Ranch Road on the west side of Colorado Springs, called 911 at 9:30 a.m. June 29 to report the bear.
When officers arrived, they say they found the bear in the back yard. The bear was reportedly about 10 yards from an officer when it made "an aggressive movement" toward the officer.
The officer shot at the bear twice. The bear ran away, but was found dead a short distance from the house.
The Colorado Parks and Wildlife District Wildlife removed the bear.
Police say the home was damaged bu the bear. An exterior window and screen were damaged, as well as some minor damage in the kitchen.
The homeowners and responding police officers were not hurt.
