A Colorado couple who survived the Aurora theater shooting are reaching out to victims of the Black Forest Fire.
Caleb Medley and his wife Katie have struggled in the year since a gunman opened fire in a crowded theater, killing 12 and wounding dozens of others. Katie, who was nine months pregnant at the time, gave birth to the couple's first child four days later as her husband fought for his life. Caleb was in a coma for two months after having been shot in the head.
As the couple moves forward from their personal tragedy, they want to give back to others who have been through so much. They have put together a fundraiser, which will be held Saturday for 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Florence High School.
The fundraiser will feature performances, an auction and a blood drive. The event Facebook page says it is "dedicated to those lost and injured on July 20, 2012 in memory of the Aurora theater shooting," and that it will "benefit the Canon City victims advocacy and those who lost their homes in the Black Forest Fire."
