The Aurora Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting after police are called to an armed robbery shortly after midnight Sunday.

Police were called to the Bradley Gas Station, 1090 N. Havana St., in Aurora, Colo. around 12:30 a.m. The clerk told police a man entered the store with a gun and held up the clerk. Minutes later, police say an officer saw a man walking that matched the description of the suspect. The man ran when cops approached.

The officer chased the man through several yards. The chase ended in a backyard, when shots were fired and the man was struck. The man was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

Aurora Crime Scene Investigators and Major Crime Homicide Units are investigating the shooting. It is not yet known if the suspect fired at the officer, but a gun was recovered from the scene.

Aurora Police Department says the officer involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave during this investigation. The suspect’s name and charges he faces have not yet been released.
