An elderly man was killed Wednesday afternoon after a hit-and-run driver ran a red light and crashed into his car.

Denver police have arrested the woman they believe was involved. She has been identified as 29-year-old Latoya Nelson.

Police say Nelson was trying to get away from a security guard at a Burger King parking lot. The security guard had reportedly witnessed Nelson backing into a vehicle and was trying to stop her from leaving the scene.

Nelson allegedly sped out of the lot--narrowly missing the guard on her way out--and ran the red light at 13th and Kalamath, colliding with the victim's car. Police say she then abandoned her car and took off from the scene.

Police interviewed passengers in her car and eventually tracked her down. The car was a rental out of Colorado Springs.

The victim was transported to the hospital, where he later died. He was the only occupant in his vehicle.
