An accident involving a retirement home bus shut down the interstate for hours Thursday in Pueblo.

The two elderly women on board the bus were taken to the hospital, one with "significant" injuries. She remains in the hospital in serious condition Friday.

According to police, the Primrose Retirement Community bus was in the passing lane and tried to move into the right lane. It reportedly clipped a vehicle already in that lane, causing both vehicles to lose control. The bus tipped on its side and skidded for about 125 feet.

Besides the two residents, there were also two staff members on the bus. One sustained a severe cut on his arm that required treatment at the hospital. The other staff member, who was driving, was not hurt.

The female driver in the other vehicle was uninjured. She was the only person in that car.

The crash shut down southbound I-25 between 1st Street and 13th Street for three hours. It was reopened just after 12 p.m.

At this time, Pueblo police are still investigating the crash and have not determined fault. They say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
