Moderate snow continues to fall for some areas of northern El Paso and Teller Counties, accumulating in the grass and yards. Meanwhile, in the plains and along the southern I-25 stretch, light rain/snow mix continues. Take it slow on the roadways - due to VERY strong winds, we are seeing blowing dirt and snow (depending on the region), which is tremendously reducing visibility. The West Nile Virus is continuing to spread across our state. So far, the disease has been confirmed in 17 counties in Colorado, including El Paso.
When the virus was discovered, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo said it wasn't concerned about its animals getting West Nile. But now it's taking precautionary measures, with plans to innoculate raptors, and possibly elephants and tapirs.
A golden eagle at the Pueblo Zoo was found to have the virus on Thursday. And on Friday, a magpie in El Paso County also tested positive.
