Outfitters across the state say this year's drought and fires
hit the rafting industry especially hard, with revenue dropping off
40 percent or more from previous summers.
A lack of rain has combined with a devastating wildfire season
and a softening economy to deal a staggering blow to the industry.
The Colorado River Outfitters Association says more than
523-thousand people hired commercial raft trips on 27 sections of
whitewater last year. The group estimates that rafting's economic
value to the state grew to 125 (m) million dollars last year.
