Hooked - (Stacia Naquin)
Updated: 10/11/2013 - I'm SO CLOSE to being able to do a pull-up. So my trainer introduced something new into my training.
A new bus service will soon take commuters between Colorado Springs and Denver. Front Range Express is geared toward people who work in Denver, but live here, and don’t want the hassle of driving that route every day.
Service is set to begin on October 11th. And the price depends on how far you want to go. A basic trip from Colorado Springs to Denver will be $6 one way.
Front Range Express is an extension of Springs Transit. And officials say the new commuter bus service is long overdue. "About three and a half years ago, we recognized the need for people to have an alternative transportation mode if they wanted to get to Denver,” says Sherre Ritenour, Springs Transit services manager.
Springs Transit is using a federal grant to get the program started, and Ritenour says there is a market for this kind of service. The Colorado Department of Transportation suggests that, altogether along the Front Range, there are 800 people a day who would use this system.
Commuters will also have an easier ride that if they made the drive themselves. The new buses are bigger and more comfortable than a regular city bus. "We will be providing wireless access for computers. People can work. They can sleep. They can relax and just enjoy the ride," says Ritenour.
And she says once you figure in gas and wear-and-tear on your vehicle, plus the cost of insurance, the fare is cheaper than driving yourself. "It's a great deal of wasted time. It's economically not a good idea for people to be in their car traveling that far and have that much unproductive time."
The federal grant for the service runs out in three years. After that, the hope is bus that fares will keep it going and a private company may even take over the route.
