Many roofing companies around Southern Colorado have been getting plenty of calls from homeowners with hail damage.

Thursday's storm hit Pueblo especially hard.

Experts say the only way to know if your roof was damaged is by looking at the roof up close.

They say the roof must be dry in order to see all the damage.

Golf ball sized hail caused craters on roofs that will only get bigger over time if not replaced.

All Star Roofing expert in Pueblo, Jason Mater says the cavity marks are okay to leave for about a year. But after that, shingles should be replaced.

Colorado and Wyoming get hailed on the most meaning homeowners need to re-shingle their roofs more often than anyone else in any other state.

Local roofers also say, be careful which company you choose.

They say there are lots of roofers who follow hail storms and come from out of state.

So if you want a local company call the Better Business Bureau for verification.

Pertaining to the comments made from your local roofing contractors about being careful which company you choose. You should choose only local contractors is great for local businesses, but isn't always the most practical choice. Even if every local contractor were to take on their max work load they still wouldn't be able to complete the damaged homes fast enough. Not to mention labor to do so. There are a couple of bad apples in every bunch, but w/ all the resources available today a little research will stop them in their tracks. I know as a homeowner that I researched the company I went w/ thoroughly before I signed w/them. I had hail damage in Columbus and heard just about every pitch on why to choose any particular company local or not. They were all good, but in the end I went w/ a "storm chaser" and was extremely impressed w/ their workmanship and eye for detail. I chose them because of the presentation, professionalism and pricing. They were actually less than the locals.
