(Denver-AP) -- A ballot question designed to reduce the influence of money in politics is gathering opposition from a range of interests.
The proposed Amendment 27 would significantly reduce political contribution limits, encourage voluntary campaign spending limits, require financial disclosure by education committees and ban direct union and corporate contributions to candidates.
But several group are speaking out against it.
Colorado Democratic Party Chairman Tim Knaus says lower contribution limits would force candidates to spend more time fund-raising.
And Nathan Gorman of Protect Freedom 2002 says the proposal would leave less prosperous groups underrepresented.
Initiative sponsor Pete Maysmith says he believes the same special interests that benefit from the current campaign contribution system oppose the proposal.
