Kobe Bryant Case

The judge in Kobe Bryant's sexual assault case has rejected a request by Bryant's alleged victim to stop posting court documents online.

District Judge Terry Ruckriegle said Monday the practice isn't foolproof, but that it makes the most sense given the scarce courthouse staff and the need to keep the public abreast of developments.

Ruckriegle said he regretted mistakes that have allowed the woman's name and other details to be posted on the Internet. But he said he disagreed with attorneys for the 20-year-old woman, who suggested that switching to a paper document system would have minimal impact.

Some 15,674 documents have been requested each month between September 2003 and July 2004, an average of 712 requests per work day.

The 25-year-old Bryant has pleaded innocent to felony sexual assault. He has said he had consensual sex with an employee of a Vail-area resort where he stayed for a few days last summer.

He faces four years to life in prison or 20 years to life on probation, plus a fine of up to $750,000 if convicted. Jury selection begins Aug. 27.
