The race for the next mayor of Divide has been decided in a hotly contested run and Spright has been named the top dog!

The race began with the Republicats and the Dogocrats months and months ago. Twenty-five dogs and cats entered the race, taking one dollar in donations for a local animal shelter for every vote. In the end, it came down to a close race between Spright, a small female mix breed, and Walter the cat.

Campaign contributors stayed up late for the results and around 12 a.m., the results were made final. Spright had received 4,755 votes and Walter had received 4,213 votes. Mayor Spright and her team celebrated a big win and the beginning of her two-year term in office!

All of the votes (1 vote= 1 dollar) went to benefit the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter. In total, the campaign raised $14,084.

Also a neat fact, the two top candidates, Spright and Walter, are both three-legged friends.

Mayor Spright's official inauguration ceremony will take place on Sunday, April 11 at 12 p.m. at the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter at 308 Weaverville Road in Divide. There will be a BBQ cookout for all candidates and the public. All people and leashed friends are welcome. For more information, contact The TCRAS Shelter at (719) 686-7707.

As a Divide resident and a TCRAS shelter dog owner I whole-heartedly support the Spright Administration, and I'm proud to live in a community with a no-kill shelter. For the unhappy fellow that doesn't like our current president I have a quick aside: it's a good thing he's working hard guaranteeing your 1st amendment right to your opinion, no matter how wrong it is!
