With the future of our community centers in Colorado Springs still uncertain many gathered together to fight to keep the doors open.
A fundraiser was held at the Westside Community Center on Bijou near Old Colorado City. City Councilmen Sean Paige and Tom Gallagher went into a dunk tank for the cause. Money to run the city's community centers was cut from this year's budget, but the city agreed to keep them open for three more months to try and find a way to keep them running.
"When the city can't afford to do some things sometimes citizens have to step up and we have to find new ways to do some things and that's the kind of out of the box thinking we are going to need to get us through this crisis," Sean Paige said.
Paige says he's encouraged by the private citizens and businesses that have already stepped up to help.
City Council will make a decision next week regarding the future of the centers.
