After a mild Saturday, temperatures to finish the weekend will be MUCH colder! A system to our west pushes into SE Colorado overnight. Snow showers will be possible by early Sunday morning across the I-25 corridor with a change to rain and snow showers through the afternoon. Accumulation should be minimal as most moisture looks to be light and temperatures will warm into the upper 30s and 40s through the afternoon. Wednesday an autopsy was performed on the victim, Mary Lou Smith, who was shot multiple times Tuesday evening by her estranged husband. The El Paso County Coroner's Office confirmed that this was a homicide and that the victim died from three gunshot wounds to the torso, one which penetrated the heart.
The other two victims who were shot have been identified as Roberto Guitierrez, 20 years old and Tabatha White, 22 years old, both from Colorado Springs. Both were acquaintances of the victim. Their injuries are not life threatening and should be released from the hospital shortly.
The suspect still remains at large. Information has been received indicating that he has made additional threats since the time of the shooting. He is to be considered armed and extremely dangerous. An update on the vehicle that he was last seen driving is a silver Cadillac Seville with Colorado License Plates 995BDF.
The Colorado Springs Police Department is asking for help from the community in locating the suspect who is identified as Marlon Laja Smith, a 47-year-old Black male, 6'1", 230 lbs. with long black hair.
Anyone having information as to his whereabouts is asked to contact the Colorado Springs Police Department at 444-7613 between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. or 444-7000 any other time or they may call Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP. Anyone calling Crime Stoppers who provides information that leads to the arrest of Marlon Smith may earn a cash reward of up to $1,000.
