John Roche of Davenport, Iowa pleaded guilty in January to leaving a profanity-laced phone message for the woman July 27th.
U.S. District Judge Walker Miller noted that Roche is a
first-time offender, has strong family support, and has done well
in his community.
But he said a message needed to be sent that crime victims
should be able to expect fair treatment from the justice system.
Roche apologized for his actions before sentencing. He'll be allowed to surrender voluntarily on August 16th, and will serve his sentence at a federal prison camp in Yankton, South Dakota.
Bryant, who just signed a seven-year deal with the Los Angeles
Lakers, is scheduled to stand trial on a felony sexual assault
charge August 27th in Eagle County. He has pleaded not guilty.
