El Paso County health officials have confirmed their first human case of West Nile virus this season.
Officials say a 29 year old man became ill with West Nile related meningitis on July fifth. The man was hospitalized and is said to be recovering.
Last year, there were 116 reported human West Nile virus cases
in El Paso County. Nearly 3,000 were confirmed statewide. Fifty four people died as a result.
So far this year, 18 human cases are confirmed across the state.
