Some 180 workers in Colorado Springs will lose their jobs this fall when Cheap Tickets closes its call center.
The company plans to shut down the Colorado Springs center in October. Officials say fewer employees are needed because most customers now book travel online. The call center had about 350 employees at its peak two years ago.
Online customer support operations at the Colorado Springs facility will be shifted to call centers in Aurora. Nashville, Tennessee; and Moore, Oklahoma.
Cheap Tickets is a unit of New York-based Cendant Corporation, the owner of Budget Rent-A-Car and a franchiser of brand names such
as Ramada Inn, Avis and Century 21 Real Estate.
