Police in Denver are looking for a man who stole a Denver family's car early Friday morning while a young member of that family was inside it.

After jumping into the car, which was idling outside a house in the 2800 block of Jackson Street, the man drove a block and then realized Tatyana, 6, was strapped in in the back seat.

"He said, 'How are you doing?'" the first grader told CBS4.

The suspect then gave up and dumped the car about a block away with Tatyana still in the back seat. Police are now looking for him but only have a very general description.

"He has a brown jacket and he was bald," Tatyana said.

Tia Greer told CBS4 she knows she and her husband made a mistake when they left Tatyana outside in the running vehicle at about 5 a.m.

"It was a dumb, stupid mistake but it wasn't like it was that long," Greer said. "It was like two-three minutes, maybe that."

Greer said she was getting ready to take her husband to work but was running late. Her husband strapped Tatyana in her seat and then went inside to get her and then when they came outside the car was gone.

"I just got my coat, walked out the door and the car was gone," Greer said.

Greer said she knows not to leave the car running anymore without being in it.

The city of Denver has a law against puffing, or leaving a running car unattended. Greer and her husband could technically face charges of child neglect or puffing in the case, but it's unlikely.

"I can't believe how fast that happened," Greer said. "It was scary."

Greer said she's grateful the car thief abandoned the car in their neighborhood and didn't hurt her child. She said that shows that although what he did was wrong he "must not be that bad of a guy."

I agree with Holly. The guy that grabbed the car seems so nice I would let him take my daughter out for icecream. I would also let him drive us on our next vacation and let him live in our backyard shed! He seems like a very standup guy!

I agree, Tina, and Charity- a situation that could have turned out so horrible. April and Buck must be perfect parents- it's always so awesome to have such judgmental people around who can tell us how terrible everyone else is, instead of focusing on the good. I'm amazed that the man who took the car stopped, realized what he was doing, and then dropped the car off. Obviously it's a person who was in desperate need of either a car or money from a car, but not such an awful person that he'd take the life of a child.

I don't understand the anger toward the mother when it was in fact the father that left the child in the car alone in the first place. The mother was still in the house when this happend. She did not know he was leaving the child in the car alone until he came back in the house. Get over yourselves. The father used poor judgement and I'm willing to bet that there is not a person alive today that can say they have NEVER used poor judgement in a given situation. WAKE UP PEOPLE.
