After a mild Saturday, temperatures to finish the weekend will be MUCH colder! A system to our west pushes into SE Colorado overnight. Snow showers will be possible by early Sunday morning across the I-25 corridor with a change to rain and snow showers through the afternoon. Accumulation should be minimal as most moisture looks to be light and temperatures will warm into the upper 30s and 40s through the afternoon. Mother Nature says "you're grounded" to 3 planes due to fly in Saturday's Air Show.
Although good conditions were in effect for the first day of the Colorado Springs Airshow, 3 planes were grounded because of heavy hail damage.
Air Power West, made up of 3 T-6 aircraft, cancelled their appearances Saturday and Sunday after being pelted overnight by hail. Pilot Ed Huber says damage is extensive...
"We've got major damage on all the metal surfaces. All of our fabric surfaces have what we call 'ring worm' where it busted the paint on it and one of the planes had four holes in the fabric."
And expensive... Damage to the 3 World War II planes is estimated at $300 thousand.
