Locally heavy rain will remain possible overnight, with any showers and storms. Areas likely to see additional heavy rain will likely be east of I-25 and along HWY 50 from Canon City eastward. Mother Nature says "you're grounded" to 3 planes due to fly in Saturday's Air Show.
Although good conditions were in effect for the first day of the Colorado Springs Airshow, 3 planes were grounded because of heavy hail damage.
Air Power West, made up of 3 T-6 aircraft, cancelled their appearances Saturday and Sunday after being pelted overnight by hail. Pilot Ed Huber says damage is extensive...
"We've got major damage on all the metal surfaces. All of our fabric surfaces have what we call 'ring worm' where it busted the paint on it and one of the planes had four holes in the fabric."
And expensive... Damage to the 3 World War II planes is estimated at $300 thousand.
