Bryant Prosecution

The man who's led prosecution of Kobe Bryant's sexual assault case since last year will be on the sidelines during the NBA star's trial this summer.

District Attorney Mark Hurlbert will provide general oversight, but will leave day-to-day responsibilities to chief deputy Gregg Crittenden and prosecutors Dana Easter and Ingrid Bakke.

Hurlbert says he would be neglecting his duty to other residents of the judicial district if he continued to be so heavily involved in Bryant's case.

Prosecution spokeswoman Krista Flannigan says the state attorney general's office will continue to provide assistance as needed.

Bakke and Easter both have extensive experience in prosecuting sexual assault cases and have been involved in the Bryant case since last fall.
