Government officials have confirmed that the body found in Haiti Monday is that of David Hames, the missing worker from Colorado Springs.

Melanie Dobson with Compassion International shared the following information with KKTV: The death of one that belongs to him is precious to the Lord.” (Ps. 116:15)

The remains of David Hames were identified by the State Department this morning, and Renee and her boys are grieving the loss of their husband and father. We know that our dear brother and friend is in heaven, but even so, Renee is grieving the loss of the man she loved with all her heart.

Our faith in God is not shaken by this terrible tragedy, but we still mourn the loss of this adoring husband, amazing daddy, and faithful friend. We all know David loved Jesus, and we know that he is safe today, at home with our Heavenly Father. Now we will band together to care for his sweet wife and their two young boys. I will post again soon about a memorial service at Vanguard Church in Colorado Springs as well as additional ways to support Renee, Aidan, and Zander.

David Hames was in Haiti working with Compassion International more than four weeks ago when the earthquake struck. He was in the lobby of the Hotel Montana with a fellow worker, Dan Woolley, at the time of the disaster. Woolley was rescued just a few days after the quake and is now back in Colorado Springs recovering.

"It's difficult to know that we were there so close to each other. I can't put a reason why I'm here and he isn't, but I do believe that our lives are in God's hands," Woolley told 11 News Monday night.

He and Hames were in Haiti filming for a project for Compassion International, a Christian non-profit organization based out of Colorado Springs. “I do believe that David died doing something that he loved. He loved filming and he had a passion to help kids in poverty and kids in need."

“We have reached out to Renee, his wife, in love. Our prayers go out to them. It's such a difficult time," said Woolley.

Hames leaves behind two sons and a wife.

As for Woolley, he hasn't returned to work full-time just yet. He's still recovering and spending time with his family.

A memorial service is being planned, but no final details about when that will happen have been set.
