The Air Force Academy announced it is closing its outdoor swimming pool, just days after an 11 News Investigation revealed thousands of gallons of water are going down the drain daily.
Several internal Air Force Academy e-mails and independent sources, obtained by 11 News, indicate the pool has been leaking up to 16,000 gallons of water a day since last fall.
11 News obtained the results of a report conducted by engineers on Wednesday that revealed nearly 12,000 gallons of water leaking every day.
On Friday, the Air Force Academy announced that it is closing the swimming pool due to "unrepairable leaks and excessive water loss."
Air Force officials indicated that tests conducted over the past two weeks showed that repairs done over winter were not successful, and that the Academy has been working on repairs since January.
