Family Prays For Missing Colorado Father In Haiti

One Colorado Springs family is waiting for a phone call from David Hames. As of Tuesday, January 19, he is still missing in Haiti after the earthquake.

His wife, Renee and their two young sons attend Vanguard Church in Colorado Springs. The congregation is coming together to support the family and pray for a miracle.

"It has been an agonizing long week. Everyday has felt like a million years and it's been a long wait and we are still waiting," says Tosha Williams, a family friend. Praying is all that Williams can do as she and other members of Vanguard continue to keep hope that David Hames is still alive.

"At the end of Tuesday, when he was done working, he went back to Hotel Montana and the moment he walked into the hotel, it collapsed on top of him and few hundred people," says Pastor Kelly Williams of Vanguard church.

Hames was working for Compassion International, an organization helping children get out of poverty. He had just returned to the hotel after a long day of work.

While his colleague Dan Woolley was rescued, efforts are still ongoing to find David. "So many people are caring, so many people are praying, and so many people are waiting anxiously to hear about him," says Williams.

Williams says Renee is holding up well. "We have been able to filter the erroneous reports away from her and tell her what we know is factual and true so she has all the up-to-date information," says Williams.

As signs of life are still being heard under the rubble, many are hoping one of those voices is David's.

Renee Hames hasn't spoken publicly about her husband, but released this statement to 11 News:
For all the people who know and love David with me, we need to remember that God says, "Be still and know that I am God." He is our God who will provide beauty and joy even in the midst of devastation. I have been blessed with friends who have tucked me under their wings and have prayed with me, encouraged me, supported me, and cried with me. Because of the support structure they have built around me, I have felt a great peace. Please continue to pray for David's rescue and well-being.

Statement from Kelly Williams, pastor of Vanguard Church in Colorado Springs:
Vanguard church is committed to standing by David and Renee Hames. If you would like to help support David's family, you can go to www.Vanguardchurch.Org. Please continue to pray for a miracle.

Statement from Kathy Redmond, U.S. Communication Director at Compassion International:
All of Compassion International is thankful that our friend and coworker Dan Woolley was rescued. Dan provided extremely valuable information about David Hames and his location for the numerous rescuers who are working diligently to find David and bring him home. Compassion has two people on the ground to communicate with the rescue teams working at the Hotel Montana. We are encouraged by the continuing reports of people being pulled out of the hotel wreckage and believe that David will be among them. David is part of the Compassion family and we will do everything we can to ensure that he is rescued. We are grateful for the passionate and tremendous work David has done with us on behalf of the over one million children in poverty that Compassion serves.
