On Saturday, the city of Colorado Springs throws a huge "Welcome Home" party for troops who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. A first-ever tickertape parade is set to roll out at 10 o'clock in the morning. A crowd of 70,000 is expected to turn out.

The will feature dozens of military units from Fort Carson, Peterson AFB, U.S. Air Force Academy and other groups from around the region. You'll also see vintage military vehicles, marching bands, floats and more. There are over 100 entries in the parade, and is expected to last more than an hour to an hour-and-a-half.

The parade begins at the corner of St. Vrain and Tejon, then travels southward down Tejon to Vermijo. The route then crosses over to Cascade and heads back north to end again at St. Vrain.

City parking lots will be open to the public at no charge and parking meters will not be enforced.

There are three main parking lots that are available:

  • Off Cascade near Bijou
  • Off Nevada south of Colorado
  • Off Nevada at Kiowa
