As many as 300 new jobs are landing in Southern Colorado. SkyWest Airlines is opening a maintenance and crew base at the Colorado Springs Airport.

SkyWest officials held an informational meeting on Thursday at the Radisson-Airport Inn. They will be back in July to look for flight attendants to join the team. And this is a good sign that SkyWest will continue to fly in and out of Colorado Springs for years to come. "This is terrific news for Colorado Springs. On the air service side, it gives us some opportunity. But the main win is the creation of new jobs," says Airport Aviation Director Mark Earle.

Besides hiring locally, SkyWest recruiters are traveling across the country to find prospective employees who are willing to relocate. "Right now, I'm pulled offline because we are growing so much we're doing so much hiring," says SkyWest In-flight Recruiter Diane Jameson.

SkyWest works under marketing agreements with three major airlines. It serves Delta and United with 13 daily flights in and out of Colorado Springs. And starting this summer, mechanics will work on the airline's fleet from a leased hangar at the airport.
Eventually, the company plans to build a new on-site facility.

By fall, this will be a “crew base.” That means flight crewmembers will start and end their trips here. The new maintenance facility will begin operations in August and be fully operational by December.
