Pueblo authorities are searching for an escaped fugitive they consider to be armed and possibly dangerous.
On Monday, 21 year-old Joseph Valdez escaped from Minnequa Community Corrections facility in Pueblo. Valdez, who was serving a 4 ½ year term at the facility, walked out the front door after being confronted about “behavioral issues.” Employees then found a cell phone in his pocket containing pictures of gang signs. The District Attorney’s office believes Valdez may have a gang connection and he may be armed.
After leaving out the front door of the facility, Valdez ran north on California Street toward Lake Minnequa. A fugitive alert was issued at approximately 5:00 p.m. on June 18, and the Sheriff’s Office filed a “Pick-up and Hold” for Valdez.
Valdez is 5’ 11” and weighs 180; he has black hair and brown eyes. He has tattoos on his left hand and left arm. His previous addresses include Colorado Springs as well as Pueblo. The Pueblo County District Court had sentenced Valdez for three-property crime and theft offenses committed in 2004, 2005 and 2006, and was serving concurrent sentences at the facility.
