More details are emerging about the death of a retired Denver police officer in Iraq. D. Bruce Tow, 54, went overseas in February with a private contractor to train Iraqi civilian police. His wife says Tow was killed over the weekend when the convoy he was riding in was ambushed at an overpass in Baghdad.

Officials with the contractor, DynCorp, say the convoy was attacked by unknown assailants with small firearms. Tow was among those who fired back.

Tow was a member of Denver's SWAT unit and earned the department's highest award, the Medal of Honor, three times Off-duty, he provided security for Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen.

Tow and his wife lost their daughter to leukemia 21 years ago, when she was 11. Tow died on his daughter's birthday.
