A scare for students at UCCS Tuesday afternoon after they received an email saying there was a gunman on campus.
It turned out to only be a pellet gun, but the suspect, 18-year-old Rheno Nieto was still arrested.
Police say around 1:30pm several students spotted Nieto holding what appeared to be a gun. He was sitting in the stands watching a boxing tournament that was going on at the college. Campus police immediately notified all students and faculty that a possible gunman was on campus, they sent out an email describing the suspect.
About 10 minutes later police were able to apprehend Nieto; students were then sent another email telling them that everything was ok.
"It hits deep because you know that things do happen on campuses, so it's scary with all the people here, you never know what will happen," said UCCS student Jennifer Baker.
Police say the suspect Rheno Nieto was a visitor here from Mississippi, not a UCCS student.
