Steamboat Springs Wildfires

(Steamboat Springs-AP) -- Five lightning-sparked wildfires are burning on over 34,000 acres near Steamboat Springs as strong winds continue to blow smoke across Colorado and into Wyoming.

Fifteen miles southeast of Steamboat Springs, the 3,214-acre Green Creek fire is threatening 12 houses and a business. It's 45 percent contained.

North of Steamboat Springs, the Hinman and Burn Ridge fires are now at 17,500 acres, more than twice yesterday's acreage.

Firefighters at the Big Fish fire in the Flattops Wilderness Area 34 miles southwest of town report no containment around the 10,000-acre blaze.

The fire, which destroyed the Trappers Lake Lodge and seven cabins Friday, is expected to merge with the 3,400 acre Lost Lake fire.
