The leader of the Catholic Diocese of Colorado Springs is giving out a stern warning to parishioners when they go to the ballots this November: vote only for candidates who follow church teachings.
In a letter in the Catholic Herald, Bishop Michael Sheridan says church-goers should not endorse candidates who support abortion rights or gay marriages. Sheridan says Catholics who support those candidates should not continue to receive the sacrament of communion.
Although no specific candidates have been named, other Catholic leaders have urged their parishioners not to support Democratic Presidential hopeful John Kerry.
