A FLASH FLOOD WATCH will go into effect at NOON and last through MIDNIGHT from most of Southern Colorado. Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms will be more than capable of producing very heavy rain once again. Burn scars and areas that saw heavy rain yesterday will be under the greatest risk for flash flooding. The 11 Breaking Weather Team will be tracking this threat all day for you.
The City began draining the lake last month to fix a leak on the bottom. But as the water recedes, everything from a rusty Volkswagon Bug, caked with mud, to guns. No one knows exactly when or how the car ended up in the Lake, but some say it may have been driven out on the ice in the winter and fallen through.
The receding ground is also attracting people in search of a treasure. People with metal detectors are finding coins, jewelry, knives and more. The policy is finders keepers.
Prospect Lake has been here since 1898. The last time it was drained was back in 1952.
The plan now is to have the Lake re-opened by next summer.
