Aban Elias, a father of three, had worked as a civil engineer in
Jordan and Abu Dhabi before returning to his native Iraq last year
in hopes of helping rebuild his country. He bought a gravel factory
to help rebuild roads, but he disappeared Monday.
A videotape delivered to an Arab television station shows him pleading for his life. The group that claimed credit hasn't made any demands for his release.
Elias' brother Kazwan Elias of Denver says he's still baffled by
what happened to his brother. He says he can't understand why an
Iraqi who is a Muslim trying to do something good for his country
would be captured.
Insurgents in Iraq have seized more than 40 civilian hostages
from at least a dozen countries in the fallout from the war.
