Lincoln County officials say Thursday's wildfire was accidentally caused by someone burning trash in a barrel. It burned up 900 acres in the area of Highway 94 and County Road 2A, about 6 miles east of Rush. It is 100-percent contained.

The fire was coming dangerously close to at least one home but 11 News is told the fire quickly turned northeast of that building and was contained before threatening any more structures. There were no evacuations and no injuries.

As many as six different departments from Lincoln, El Paso, Tri-County, Simla, Limon and Ellicott responded to the fire. Smoke could be seen from miles away. The fire spread to 900 acres in less than two hours but fire responders were able to extinguish those flames fairly quickly as well.
