Wasson Students Arrested

Two Colorado Springs high school students are facing charges for allegedly making violent threats against classmates.

Authorities say a 16 year old boy at Wasson High School told a girl on Monday that he was going to shoot her, then continue shooting up the rest of the building.

Another 16 year old male student at Wasson made similar threats last Thursday.

In both cases, classmates overheard the threats and notified officials.

The boys are under arrest on suspicion of menacing, and interfering with faculty, staff and students at a school.

It's the policy of Colorado Springs School District 11 to send letters to parents when such threats occur, but no letters were sent in these cases.

A district spokeswoman says it's not clear why.

Seriously if parents whooped their kids like they did when I was growing up thigs like this wouldn't happen. Parents today let the kids be the boss. When I was in school if I even though about bringing a gun to school my parents would have killed me. I was taught rigth from wrong I knew my limits they were set very clear. Kids today do whatever they want because they feel they are untouchable. This city and the parents in it need to be much more strict than they are. Law enforcement needs to create much harsher punishments and enforce them. Warnings and slaps on the wrists do nothing but let these kids know they have control. I agree that the students should have been notified and as a parent I would be furious to find out on the news rather than from the school. We as parents deserve to know that are children could be in danger. To all students you need to learn and respect the fact that school is a place to learn and nothing more. Do what you gotta do and get out. Nobody has a right to make anyone feel fear. Nobody has any right to preventt another who wants to learn from doing so. If you don't want to learn get out leave the ones who do and let them be able to do so in a safe place. Situations like this make me so angry and with all the comments of pety arguing back and forth and blaming everyone else is not helping anything as a matter of fact it makes situations like this worse. I don't care what the whole situation is what these kids did was wrong and that is a fact forget everything else. Stop the arguing and pull together for your community to comfort those around you and to do your part to prevent situations like this from happening in the future. Our city is better than this and if we all pull together and do our best in every aspect we can make our city a safe place again.

In regards to Stacy's comment: How about learning the complete situation before making a comment. Do you go to Wasson? Have you ever had to live with what goes on in our school? I was there the day these events took place. The ones who made the threats are the ones who have been doing the bullying. Learn the facts before you open your mouth in protest to how our administrators handle things.

The letters are only now avalible to students who want to go and pick them up in the front office and are avalible on the web site. They are fianally getting it together now and its better to be late then never at all. Thanx for giving them a subtle push to tell us about it. ---A wasson student

I attend Wasson and didn't even hear about any of this untill last night. I am very disapointed that us students aren't being informed obout things like this. It is sad that we can't be told about whats going on at our school before the rest of the world.

I think the adults who interact with these children should be held accountable. Why do school officials turn a blind eye every time a child begs for some kind of intervention from being bullied? How much torment can one kid take before they break? Instead of arresting these kids for making threats how about arresting the kids who torment and tease them? Isnt that harrassment?
